Take the guilt out of travel

These days it has become easier than ever to fall into a mind-numbing routine. Something as simple as a change of scenery can reinvigorate those of us that have. With the opportunity coming from within the company, we can also remove the ‘vacation guilt’ that keeps so many tied down.

I first took advantage of WorkFromRome this summer when my hometown Chicago Cubs were visiting my girlfriend’s hometown St. Louis Cardinals. We booked with HR in March, no cost to me! The Hampton was nice, on the highway exit, and close to everything. It was a four-hour drive for us, so not too bad. Two stops for the dog’s pee-breaks. We made it to 2 games! (Team sucked, but it was fun!).

I worked away during the days, but by 4pm every day Jane had us out the door and enjoying her family, our baseball, etc. It felt like a vacation, but I was still able to get my work done in the room with no interruptions. Wifi was fine, desk space good. Mini-fridge, coffee maker, microwave. Again, no cost to me, this is a fantastic perk!

Not everyone is interested in the WorkFromRome perk, but the 40% of my staff that use it are big fans. Our crew is happy, and their workflow continues uninterrupted. Which makes me a fan, too! We started giving these vouchers out at awards banquets, and in-office ceremonies. Now, we integrated it with our incentive program, and even incorporate it into quarterly performance reviews.
Work From Rome has been integral in our efforts to return to pre-Covid occupancy. Low-maintenance guests on multi-night stays in our target demographics, works for me!
Last summer had me using all of my vacation time on other people’s weddings. With the WorkFromRome perk I was able to travel to Dallas for a week’s worth of rehearsal dinners and cocktail parties without taking any time off from work!
I’d been thinking about a trip to New York City for far too long. I couldn’t seem to decide what to jam in to a 2 day weekend.
